Marine Transporters Visit DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Members of the Marine Corps Headquarters Logistics Policy Office and logisticians from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, visited Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, Aug. 28.

“These tours focus on exposing the customer to our procedures while identifying friction points that have previously gone unreported,” said Army Capt. Jason Brown, DDSP transportation operations officer.  “Here the people that write policy and those receiving shipments at Camp Lejeune can work together with the DDSP team to improve our effectiveness when supporting the warfighter.”

Brown took the group to the outbound area where shipments are staged for Camp Lejeune and discussed how materiel is picked, packaged and placed for shipment.

“Well this has been good for me,” said Oliver Bell, Marine Corps Transportation Policy. “I’m in the Pentagon and I don’t get out too often to kick a box. For me it was interesting to learn about what they do, and in some cases, what they don’t do. It’s a large and impressive operation.”

The group was taken through the facility into major areas such as receiving and shipping and the bin and storage units. The facility is about the size of 33 football fields.

“For me the most important thing is you finally get to see someone face-to-face that you only work with by phone and email,” said Joe Rothrock, Marine Corps Transportation Policy. “We also had some good discussions and we got a few ideas that we are going to research and explore for cost effectiveness; so more may come from our visit.”
