By DLA Land and Maritime Public Affairs DLA Land and Maritime Public Affairs

The Defense Supply Center Columbus will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. in the Operations Center Auditorium. The event is hosted by Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime and will feature keynote speaker Liliana Vasquez, local chapter president of the League of the United Latin American Citizens. Vasquez is an associate attorney with Simakovsky Law, which provides accessible legal services to the Hispanic community, and serves on the board of Proyecto Mariposas.

The theme of this annual event is “Feats of Valor” and will feature presentations on the U.S. Army’s Puerto Rican regiment – the 65th Infantry Regiment nicknamed the Borinqueneers. The regiment served in several conflicts dating back to the early 1900s and was one of the most decorated units of the Korean War.

Media interested in attending should contact the DSCC and DLA Land and Maritime Public Affairs Office at 614-692-2328 or dla.land.and.maritime.public.affairs@dla.mil for additional details. RSVPs are required no later than 24 hours prior to the event due to enhanced security screening procedures. Plan to arrive at the Yearling Road Visitor’s Center prior to the event.
