Individually packaged pies and punch were offered as well as informational booths showcasing the 11 Special Emphasis Committees that promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

“Our workforce is full of diverse people,” DLA Disposition Services Special Emphasis Program Manager Stacy Marsala said. “All American Day is about finding strengths in our differences. We came here today to celebrate what joins us all together, being American.”

DLA Disposition Services Director Mike Cannon thanked everyone for participating and reminded attendees to be conscious of physical distancing and to be safe at the afternoon event.

“One of the cool things about DLA Disposition Services headquarters is that we are the beginning and the end of DOD logistics,” Cannon said. “It starts with cataloging and ends with disposal. Almost each piece in between is managed here in Battle Creek.”

During the event, four senior leaders volunteered to be Diversity and Inclusion Champions. These volunteers support the Special Emphasis Committees and promote employee engagement and participation. Six positions remain available.

The committees that were featured during All American Day are Dr. Martin Luther King, National African American History - Black Employment Program, National Women’s History, Holocaust Days of Remembrance, National Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage, LGBTQI+ Pride, All American Day, Women’s Equality Day, National Hispanic Heritage – VIDA, National Disabilities Employment Awareness and National Native American/Alaskan Native Heritage.
