Jacksonville’s deputy director Dacy retires after 36 years of federal service

By Brianne M. Bender DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Brian Dacy, deputy director at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Jacksonville, Fla., is retiring after 36 years of federal service on June 3.  For his outstanding contributions, Dacy received the DLA Exceptional Civilian Service Award and a Silver Letter.

Dacy began his career in 1978 as a budget analyst intern at the Naval Air Rework Facility in Jacksonville, Fla.  He was promoted to supervisory budget analyst for the Navy Stock Fund in 1984 and again in 1988 to storage supervisor at the Naval Supply Center in Jacksonville where he oversaw the storage operations for the next six years.

Promoted to accountable officer at the Naval Supply Center which later became DLA Distribution Jacksonville, Fla., Dacy served for seven years until he assumed duties as the lead quality assurance evaluator and alternate contracting officer representative in 2005.

He was promoted to deputy director, DLA Distribution Jacksonville, in June 2012. Dacy also served as the director of DLA Distribution Jacksonville for seven months in 2014. During that time, his leadership and institutional knowledge was essential to keeping the team together and focused on the mission. He was instrumental in fine tuning the processes of the recently implemented Inventory Management and Stock Positioning program into the DLA Distribution Jacksonville contract.

“Mr. Dacy’s professionalism and devotion to duty remain the standard by which all should be measured,” said Jacksonville’s director Brian Burkholder. “Civil servants should strive to achieve his level of professionalism and the ‘can do’ spirit he brought to the workplace each day.”

Dacy was an essential part of the team responsible for the successful transition of the distribution mission from the Navy to DLA in 1998. His continued involvement and process improvements have helped make DLA Distribution Jacksonville the model distribution center it is today.

Dacy helped develop the concept that transformed the Naval Supply Center distribution mission into the efficiently operating distribution center it is today.  He has been the lead for many projects and initiatives that set the foundation for ultimate success and an excellent level of superior customer support.

“Mr. Dacy should be justifiably proud in having made significant and lasting contributions to the warfighter,” said Burkholder. “His departure will leave a void that will be difficult to fill.”
