DLA Training hosts inaugural education fair

By Brianne M. Bender DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Priding itself on its dedicated employee base, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution strives to foster an environment that unlocks the full potential of its workforce. As a result, DLA Training hosted its first education fair for DLA Distribution employees June 3.

For four and a half hours, a steady stream of people flowed in and around the event, speaking with representatives from Albright College, Elizabethtown College, Kaplan Institute, Keystone Technical Institute and Penn State Harrisburg about opportunities for adult education.

“I took a full course load while working full-time with overtime and raising a family,” said DLA Distribution employee David Phillips. “The education was worth it in the end.”

DLA’s Enterprise Tuition Assistance Program encourages employees to actively pursue self-development by providing financial support for continuing education at the undergraduate or graduate-level.  “We want to make sure people know about tuition assistance and the opportunities to further their education,” said Jessica Timberlake, DLA Human Resources.

“We are hoping to make this education fair a yearly event,” Timberlake said. “This year’s fair is our guinea pig. Hopefully the event will grow in the years to come.”

Timberlake also encourages any employees with feedback and suggestions on the fair to contact DLA Training at DSN 771-8940.
