Puget Sound’s Camagong named DLA Distribution Employee of the Quarter

By Emily Tsambiras DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Sergio M. Camagong, material handler at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Puget Sound, Wash., has been named Employee of the Quarter for third quarter, fiscal year 2015 for his steadfast dedication to supporting Naval customers.

“Sergio’s efforts during this quarter had a significant impact on the Navy’s largest shipyard by providing efficient management and timely delivery of mission support material that ensured the maintenance production schedule was never down for waiting supplies.  His efforts directly impacted the shipyard’s ability to return warships back to the fleet on schedule and ready to fight!,” said the distribution center’s commander, Navy Cmdr. Mark Peace.

As mission support materiel storekeeping subject matter expert, Camagong was exclusively accountable for welding rod material consisting of over 125 line items valued in excess of $250,000.  Through his meticulous attention to detail, 600 requirements were filled last quarter with zero discrepancies.

Also serving as Corporate Component Repair Program stock point custodian, he provided customer service and managed over 85 Naval Sea Systems Command-interest and highly-visible CCRP line items worth more than $750,000, maintaining a 100 percent inventory accuracy rate.

Driving efficiency, Camagong rearranged and relocated over 35 bulk material pallets, clearing more than 1,000 sq. feet of floor space for incoming stock.  He also proactively coordinated a strategic material warehousing plan that consolidated Ships Locker inventory parts and material by classification, generating over 25 pallet storage spaces for shop store material.

While a work lead position was gapped awaiting selection, Camagong led six material handlers in the execution of 350 receipts and stows, resulting in 100 percent accuracy during the last inventory cycle.  He also volunteered and assisted in receiving and “put-away” functions of over 125 pallets of material during manning shortfalls and accurately issued more than 75 line items of bulk material for Shop Store 41, resulting in on-time delivery supporting Puget Sound Naval Shipyard project mission readiness.

“Sergio’s steadfast dedication to duty and phenomenal work ethic has been infectious within the organization.  He is the ‘go-to’ person for his technical expertise and meticulous attention to detail,” said Peace.

While not at work, Camagong enjoys volunteering in the local community.  He volunteered 15 hours supporting the Free and Accepted Masons’ fundraising events, resulting in the award of a $1,000 scholarship and a $1,000 donation to the Books and Bikes Program of Central Kitsap High School.  He also volunteered nine hours of clean-up supporting Washington’s Adopt-a-Highway Program.
