Gifts, games highlight of annual children’s holiday party

By Mikia Muhammad DLA Troop Support Public Affairs

Games of musical chairs, “pin the carrot on the snowman” and other activities filled the classrooms of Benjamin Franklin Elementary School children during Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s annual children’s holiday party Dec. 10.

More than 200 kindergarteners and first-graders participated in arts and crafts, games and received gifts donated by DLA Troop Support employees.

Employee volunteers led the party activities in addition to collecting, wrapping and transporting approximately 600 character-themed presents based on each student’s respective gift “wish.”

DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Charles Hamilton stopped by the party to greet the students and thank employee volunteers and school staff.

“I’m so glad I had the opportunity to participate in one of our largest community relations events...the annual Children’s Holiday Party,” Hamilton said. “Simply put, I was overwhelmed at the generosity and spirit of volunteerism put forth by this great workforce.”

Seeing the excitement of the children during the party makes the months of planning worth it, Community Relations Coordinator Janeen Hayes said.

“We really had fun celebrating with you today,” Hayes told a group of children during the party. “We hope you enjoyed yourselves and have an awesome holiday.”
