DSCR welcomes new police chief

By Bonnie Koenig DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Defense Logistics Agency Installation Support at Richmond welcomed a new police chief Chad Tearne to Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, in November. Tearne brings with him more than 20 years of security force protection experience and is a specialized weapons instructor. Newly retired out of the Air Force in October, Tearne said he has been a Defense Logistics Agency customer for his entire military career and when the opportunity came up to work here he decided he could definitely support the DLA mission because it supports our warfighters.

“I want to stay plugged into the military, in one way or another, in helping them out,” said Tearne.

When asked what he hopes to bring to the DLA community, he said, he plans to develop a more community-oriented police force by encouraging the officers to have high visibility, getting out and meeting folks and visiting them in their work areas. He hopes to get employees involved in training, such as police week events and active shooter training.

Tearne said his management style is building a collaborative team environment for everything we do. He is looking forward to continuing and building upon the collaborations with the Chesterfield County police force. “Chesterfield County police have participated with us on weekends in gate runner training and practiced different structures and scenarios,” said Tearne.

He added that he will take care of the police force and he will not ask them to do anything he wouldn’t do.

His last assignment was at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts, approximately 20 miles northwest of Boston. He said he, his wife and two children are enjoying living in the Richmond area.
