Defense Logistics Agency Distribution commander Army Brig. Gen. Richard B. Dix has been announced as the next commanding general, Joint Munitions and Lethality Life Cycle Management Command, Joint Munitions Command, Rock Island Arsenal, Ill.
The Joint Munitions and Lethality Life Cycle Management Command aligns three organizations to execute the Army's munitions and lethality mission: the Program Executive Office for Ammunition; the Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center and the Joint Munitions Command.
The Army Sustainment Command provides logistics by synchronizing acquisition, logistics and technology support from the strategic through the operation to the tactical level. ASC serves as Army Materiel Command's single face to the field to provide combat service support capability to Soldiers serving in combat commands in the continental United States as well as overseas.
Dix, who will assume his new position in late spring, has served as DLA Distribution commander since May 29, 2014.
With more than 25 years in the Armed Forces, Dix has served the nation as a leader at every level. A native of Atlanta, Ga., Dix graduated from Armor Officer Basic Course. He served as tank platoon leader, A Co, 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor, 24th Infantry Division.
He also served as the executive officer for A Co, HQ Command, and 224 Forward Support Battalion during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. The brigade deployed to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where Dix served as the Bde S-4 Fwd during Operation Desert Defiance. Upon redeployment, he served as the chief of supply and services 32nd ADCOM G-4.
Dix served in Germany, where he was assigned to the 21st Theater Support command (TSC). He also served as the deputy chief of plans and exercises G-3, 21st TSC, Group S-3, 29th Support Group (SG), support operations officer 200th Materiel Management Center, brigade executive officer 29th SG, and he culminated as the 29th SG rear group commander during the group's successful deployment as the Joint Logistics Command (JLC) for Combined Joint Task Force-76 (CJTF-76), Afghanistan Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF VI).
From July 2009 to July 2010, Dix successfully commanded the 401st Army Field Support Brigade (AFSB) in Bagram, Afghanistan. From July 2010 to July 2012, he served as the chief of staff for the Army Sustainment Command. Dix served as the executive officer to the deputy chief of staff, G-4 from July 2012 to August 2013.
Dix comes to DLA Distribution after having served as the director of Strategy and Integration G-45/7 for the deputy chief of staff of the Army, G-4.
Dix attended Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., where he also received a Master of Arts in procurement and acquisition management from Webster University. He is a 2009 graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. In 1987, he graduated from SC State University's Army ROTC Program with a Bachelor of Science in marketing.
Dix's military awards include the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the NATO Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service/Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, South West Asia Service Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters.
