In a ceremony held in the DLA Distribution Headquarters lobby, senior leaders, military members and civilian staff celebrated the U.S. Army’s 241st Birthday on June 14, 2016.  As one of his last official actions as commanding general, Army Brig. Gen. Richard B. Dix spoke about the significance and history, followed by presentation of several awards honoring Distribution headquarters staff.

On June 14, 1775, Congress adopted the American Continental Army, raising 10 companies of riflemen, approving an enlistment form, and appointing a committee to draft rules and regulations. The following day, George Washington was unanimously chosen as the commander of all continental forces.
