Name: Marco Walker

Organization: DLA Aviation Customer Operations Directorate

Years of Service: 4 years

What is your job title, and what do you do, specifically? As a customer accounts specialist. I process customer orders and requirements which include, but not limited to entering and reviewing orders, editing information for completeness and validity, determining availability of requested items and associated replacements/substitutes, coordinating and validating shipment information, assessing the urgency of requirements and determining necessary actions. I expedite actions, as necessary, including entering emergency orders, and expediting priority backorders related to routine and difficult supply problems for customer requisitions classified as most urgent.

What do you like most about your job? The best part about working here is being able to help the warfighter.  I was once the warfighter; now I’m retired, so I really understand how important it is for me to do everything I can to get the parts to the warfighters as soon as possible.

What would you say has been your major contributions to your organization this year in your job?  I was instrumental in helping the Backorder Reduction Team reduce the fiscal 2015 aged backorders, that were greater than three years old from the fiscal 2014 baseline, by 93.3 percent. My duties included identifying aged requirements with insufficient pipelines to cover existing backorders and working with the Planning Directorate personnel to ensure the correct amount of material was being procured to satisfy requirements. I reviewed national item identification numbers (NIINs) with delinquent contracts, number of purchase orders, number of purchase requests (PRs), NIINs with PRs only, and worked with pre-and-post awards and Planning and Business Process Support directorates for resolutions.

If you could speak directly to the warfighters you support, what would you tell them?
That I understand their frustration. I was once in their shoes and I’m doing everything possible to help.

What was your first job?  My first job was with the U.S. Army.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?  Still here having fun!

What are some of your passions outside of work? Spending time with family and friends.

Who is the most influential person in your life...past or present?  My mother.

What is your proudest accomplishment?  One of many would be finishing my master’s degree.

What type of music do you most enjoy? Reggae.
