Digital Map Products

Digital products are selected items that have been replicated in Compressed Disk - Read Only Media (CD-ROM) or Digital Versitle Disk (DVD) format. Digital stock numbers can be obtained via the NGA Reference Number/ National Stock Number (NRN/NSN) Lookup and Download.

Compressed Arc Digitized Raster Graphic (CADRG)/Enhanced Compressed Digitized Raster Graphic (ECRG)

Compressed Digitized Raster Graphic (CDRG) and Enhanced Compressed Digitized Raster Graphic (ECRG) - CDRG is a Joint Services' standard map background product. It is produced in multiple scales in support of systems with map background display, coordinates selection and perspective view generation capabilities. CDRG is a common compression of  Digitized Raster Graphic (CDRG) for use in any application requiring rapid display of a map image, manipulation of the image or manipulation of the image of a map in raster form. CDRG achieves a nominal compression of 55:1 over CDRG.

CDRG/ECRG data is also available on the NGA Gateway Server https://www.geo.nga.mil/products/adrg/ (CAC Required)

Digital City Graphic (DCG)

DCG features include important buildings, airfields, military installations, industrial complexes, embassies, government buildings, hospitals, schools, utilities, and places of worship. A guide to numbered buildings and an index to street names are provided in the margin. Contour lines are in sufficient detail to identify spurs, draws, saddles, hill tops, and concave/convex slopes. DCGs can be used for mission planning and navigation. Often used in military operations in urban terrain, non-combatant evacuation operations, attachè support, and civil disturbance types of missions

Controlled Image Base (CIB)

CIB is an unclassified seamless dataset of orthophotos, made from rectified grayscale aerial images. It supports various weapons, C4I theater battle management, mission planning, digital moving map, terrain analysis, simulation and intelligence systems. CIB data are produced from digital source images and are compressed and reformatted to conform to the raster product format standard. The files are physically formatted within the National Imagery Transmission Format (NITF) message. It may be derived from a grayscale image, from one band of a multispectral product, or from an arithmetic combination of several multispectral bands.

Applications for CIB include rapid overview of areas of operations, map substitutes for emergencies and crisis, metric foundation for anchoring other data in C4I systems or image exploitation, positionally-correct images for draping in terrain visualization, and image backgrounds for mission planning and rehearsal.

DLA Map Catalog (DMC)

The map product catalogs (excluding Volume I - Nautical Charts and Publications) are on CD-ROM and include the four product types: aeronautical, digital, hydrographic, and topographic. It is a graphical representation of National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) products available from Mapping Customer Operations (MCO).

After your products have been selected using a dialog box you can place them into a shopping cart upload the order directly into FedMall. Customers are encouraged to initially order the DLA Map Catalog (CATCDNMCI) and begin receiving it via automatic distribution/subscription. There are a limited number of copies maintained at the Richmond Map Facility, so get yours via automatic distribution/subscription. This catalog is produced every 120 days. For more up-to-date catalog data, the NIPR and SIPR catalogs can be updated via the data download features in FedMall or the SIPRnet, respectively.

The DLA Map Catalog allows customers to order Aeronautical, Digital, Hydrographical, and Topographical products needed for mission planning and navigation. Customers who order geospatial products through the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) must have the following:

  1. A valid DoDAAC
  2. A current Map Account with DLA Aviation, Mapping Customer Operations
  3. The DLA Map Catalog CD or on-line version
  4. A FedMall account

There are currently two Compact Disc (CD) versions and two downloadable versions available. These versions are described below:

CD Versions:

  1. The "Unclassified/Limited Distribution" gray CD (NRN: CATCDNMCI / NSN: 7644015433809) is reserved for military and government agencies which possess access to limited distribution data. The disk is Navy/Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) compatible. A new version is released every four months.
  2. The "Classified" red CD (NRN: CATCDCLASSIFIED / NSN: 7644014784791) is reserved for military and government entities that have access to classified data. A new version is released every four months.

Download Areas:

  1. Limited Distribution - NIPRNet
Log into DOD FedMall (https://www.fedmall.mil  CAC Required) and click on the "DLA Map Catalog" link under FedMall at the bottom of the page. Download the application to your desktop and follow the instructions to unzip the application to your computer.
  2. Classified- SIPRNet
Navigate to the DLA homepage (http://www.dla.smil.mil) and click on the "DLA Map Catalog" link on the left hand side of the page. Download the application to your desktop and follow the instructions to unzip the application to your computer.

Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED)

DTED is a uniform matrix of terrain elevation values. It provides basic quantitative data for all military systems that require terrain elevation, slope and gross surface roughness information. Data density depends on the level produced.

DTED0 post spacing is 30 arc seconds (approximately 1000 meters). This corresponds to a small scale hardcopy product. DTED1 post spacing is three arc seconds (approximately 100 meters). This corresponds to a medium scale hardcopy product. DTED2 post spacing is one arc second (approximately 30 meters), corresponding to large scale hardcopy products.

Vector Maps (VMAP)

VMap Level 0 is the low resolution component of the VMap family of products. VMap Level 0 is a comprehensive 1:1,000,000-scale vector basemap of the world. It consists of geographic, attribute, and textual data stored on CD-ROMs.

Vmap Level 1 contains medium resolution data at the 1:250,000 scale. Data is separated into ten thematic layers consistent throughout the VMap program.

The Vmap Level 2 program is designed to provide vector-based geospatial data at high resolution. Data are separated into 10 thematic layers consistent throughout the VMap program. Each layer contains thematically consistent data.
