NYC mayor: DLA’s response to Hurricane Sandy ‘invaluable’
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg thanked the Defense Logistics Agency for its efforts to help those impacted by Hurricane Sandy last month in a letter to DLA Director Navy Vice Adm. Mark Harnitchek.
“On behalf of the City of New York, please accept my sincere appreciation for the support the Defense Logistics Agency provided during our Hurricane Sandy relief efforts,” Bloomberg wrote.
Hurricane Sandy, which made landfall in New Jersey Oct. 29, left a path of destruction that displaced thousands of people and left millions more without power throughout the Northeast. A following nor’easter hit the area Nov. 7, creating further damage and hampering the relief efforts. The mayor cited emergency supplies such as meals, generators, water pumps, blankets, medical supplies and fuel as vital to the effort.
“Many New Yorkers across the city were impacted by this severe storm, and your rapid response was invaluable to helping our residents through this very challenging time,” Bloomberg wrote. “Many thanks for stepping into action when New York City needed you most.”
