DLA, Army leaders meet to discuss support to Soldiers

The Defense Logistics Agency and the Army are doing great work together to support Soldiers worldwide but have to continue communicating to sustain that, DLA Director Navy Vice Adm. Mark Harnitchek said May 2 during Army/DLA Day at the McNamara Headquarters Complex.

“We’re here to serve you,” Harnitchek told Army and agency leaders and staff members. “And writ large, I think we’re doing great. The Army/DLA team has it exactly right. I’m not worried one bit about logistics, … but we have to keep talking.”

The event, an effort for DLA to communicate with its customers regularly, was co-hosted by Harnitchek, Lt. Gen. Raymond Mason, deputy chief of staff of the Army for logistics, and Lt. Gen. Patricia McQuistion, deputy commander of Army Materiel Command. It included multiple representatives from each organization, both in person and over video teleconference. Mason, who previously served as commander of DLA Troop Support, said it was great to work with the agency.

“I have a real respect of the work DLA does across all of its supply chains,” he said. “Days like this are important to get a common operating picture.”

Mason started off with an overview of the Army’s priorities, including force structure, present and future sustainment, Army equipment in Afghanistan and the service’s pre-positioned stocks.

Other planned topics of discussion included an update on the Single Army Logistics Enterprise, DLA Disposition Services support in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, combating counterfeit parts, and the distribution framework.

“It’s a great time to be serving America’s great Army,” Harnitchek said. “Thanks for what you’re doing.”
