DLA Disposition Services at Red River host Director's Town Hall

By Jeff Landenberger DLA Disposition Services

DLA Disposition Services Director Michael Cannon held a town hall with the Mid-America region team at Texas’ Red River Army Depot during a recent leadership summit there in March.

Cannon started by congratulating the Red River team for the many site improvements he had noticed.

“I was here a couple years ago, and this looks like a whole different place,” he said, noting that the site was more organized, the workflow was improved and the number of unprocessed receipts had dropped. He praised their accomplishments and he thanked team members for them.

Cannon covered several topics during the meeting, including material handling equipment safety. He stressed workforce safety and encouraged people to stop and say something if they see something unsafe. He also noted that the best piece of safety gear on any MHE is the operator, but additional tools such as bolt-on safety equipment, like back-up cameras, were being evaluated for future use.

As the town hall wrapped up, Cannon said one of the things he likes about his role as director is the opportunity to recognize people for their outstanding work. He said when he travels; he always asks which personnel are deserving of an award at whatever site he visits. He said he gets the same answer from all the leaders he asks: “Everybody.”

Cannon recognized eight people from the Mid-America team: Materials Examiner and Identifier Warehouse Supervisor Edward Martin Jr., from the Fort Carson site; ME&I Work Leader Carlos Chapman Jr., from Fort Hood; ME&I Aulii Fuller from Fort Riley; ME&I Jeff Harris, from Red River; Pathways to Career Excellence 1104 program participant Brad Prater, also from Red River; Management and Program Analyst Alfreda Hopkins, from Red River; ME&I Wayne Hall, from Red River, and Mid-America Deputy Director Jessie Parisano.

Cannon then asked who was the longest serving DLA employee. That turned out to be Red River’s own Wayne Hall, a MEI with 35 years of service.

In closing, Cannon said, “I want to thank you for all you do and all you have done.”
