Troop Support retiree honored for 31 years of service

Karen Goodburlet was honored by the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support for 31 years of federal service at a retirement ceremony March 28 in Philadelphia. The ceremony was presided over by DLA Troop Support Deputy Commander Richard Ellis, who thanked Goodburlet for her dedication to the warfighter and highlighted her impact as a purchasing agent in the Medical supply chain.

Troop Support staff office ‘steps into the breach,’ thanked by commander

Four acquisition professionals from the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support were recognized for their teamwork and accomplishments Feb. 6 in Philadelphia. Joan Estelly, Raeshon Falkowski, Eileen Friel and Nate Prattico, all from DLA Troop Support’s Procurement Directorate, received certificates of appreciation and a command coin from DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Mark Simerly as thanks for their contributions to the Construction and Equipment supply chain during a period of high demand and employee turn-over.

Troop Support hosts JBMDL Logistics Officers Association chapter

Leaders from the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support hosted members of the Logistics Officer Association’s Pudgy Chapter from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to educate the members on its mission and warfighter impact during the visit Jan. 24 in Philadelphia. LOA members were provided an overview of DLA and DLA Troop Support, as well as detailed presentations from each of Troop Support’s five supply chains: Subsistence, Clothing and Textiles, Construction and Equipment, Medical and Industrial Hardware.

Finding balance at the summit: Troop Support employee climbs Kilimanjaro

Not many people can claim that they have danced with an African tribe, climbed to the top of the highest peak in Africa and watched a sunset from above the clouds. But thanks to an adventurous spirit and a supportive workplace, Jeff Crow can make that claim. Crow, a material planner in the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s Industrial Hardware supply chain and avid trekker from Colorado, decided he needed to take a trip to provide stability to his work-life balance - and a tropical vacation wasn’t going to do the trick. He needed a challenge. He was going to climb Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro - one of the “Seven Summits,” which are the highest peaks on each of Earth’s continents.

Reorganizing for employee development, future success

For new employees, “learning the ropes” can be a challenge. So leaders in the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Industrial Hardware supply chain found a way to help set up certain new employees for success. Developed in 2018, the IH Material Planning training branch took a cue from IH’s Technical and Quality Division and helped standardize training and “build the bench” of more skilled, knowledgeable interns and employees in the Pathways to Career Excellence program, or PaCErs.

Troop Support honors Army reservist’s retirement

Army Lt. Col. Thomas Wooden Jr. was honored for 29 years of service to his nation at a retirement ceremony held Jan. 4 at the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support in Philadelphia where he spent the last 29 years of his military career as an Army reservist. During the ceremony, presiding official and DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Mark Simerly thanked Wooden and his more than 20 family members in attendance for their support to the Army and to the nation. “We know that serving in the armed services poses challenges for our soldiers that many civilians and their families cannot appreciate, but you all can,” Simerly said. “And your support to [Wooden] has been essential in his success.”
