When the Department of Defense Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program started in 1995, school districts in only eight states signed on with the partnership effort. This year, the annual wildfire season has been less active, with about 28 percent fewer acres of land burning during the season than the 10-year average, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. Students and academic leaders from the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Operations School visited the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support in Philadelphia Aug. 26 for an overview of the agency’s services and to learn about its mission. The students, who are part of the school’s Advanced Study of Air Mobility program, met with representatives from each of the agency’s five supply chains.
