Carter G. Woodson nominees announced

The Defense Supply Center Columbus has named the 2020 Carter G. Woodson Award nominees. The annual award recognizes two individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the African American community – one each from the Central Ohio community and the Defense Federal community. Past recipients include former Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty and Charles Tennant, the founder of Columbus’ Africentric School.

From poverty to public service: Franklin County commissioner delivers keynote address at Black History Month program

Franklin County Commissioner Kevin Boyce delivered the keynote address at the Defense Supply Center Columbus’ African American and Black History Month celebration Feb. 27. Boyce became the county’s first black commissioner when he was sworn into office in 2017. In a robust presentation to the military and civilian audience, Boyce reflected on the impact of African Americans throughout American history and shared personal stories from his own life.

DSCC honors King by remembering his dream

DSCC associates gathered to remember the past, celebrate the victories and were reminded to carry on the actions for the future during the Jan. 16 program honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “It’s inspiring that we reflect earnestly on the ideals of diversity, tolerance and equality that he lived his life by,” said Ketchum as she introduced the keynote speaker, Chenelle Jones, Franklin University’s lead faculty for the Criminal Justice Administration.
