September orientation introduces 50 new associates

September 23 was the first day of the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime New Employee Orientation for 50 new employees but this orientation was different than previous months. Participants were able to log in via WebRTC and use their webcams to see presenters and fellow employees instead of logging in to watch the PowerPoint presentations. This adjustment made the two-day orientation more interactive.

2020 California Baptist University Business and Accounting Fair

The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime went to the West Coast, virtually that is, to recruit at the 2020 California Baptist University Business and Accounting Fair Sept. 23. Nine students from various business fields of study and DLA recruiters attended the event using a virtual platform.

Vision loss doesn’t stop DLA associate from achieving dreams

The last five years have been kind to Gregory Ramsey. The contracting specialist met and married his wife, embarked on a new career at Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime and became a father. In an interview for National Disability Employment Awareness Month, he described this time in his life as a whirlwind and how he’s able to “see” better than ever despite being legally blind.

It’s a fact of life that anyone at some point in time could develop a disability that hampers one or more areas of life. This reality is a reason to call attention to the 30th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disability Act and the Rehabilitation Act as amended.

DSCC activities support Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October has been National Domestic Violence Awareness Month since 1981. The observance serves to educate communities, individuals, couples and families about the Family Advocacy Program services and other community resources that can help prevent domestic violence, raise awareness of community responsibility, and inform the community of the many ways to report domestic abuse.

Land and Maritime senior leader promotes workforce disability awareness

As Champion for the Persons with Disabilities Program, I thought I’d begin by telling my story. Several years ago, I went to a Lasik center to explore having surgery to correct my eyesight. Unfortunately, I was given bad news. I was diagnosed with a congenital disorder called Keratoconus where my corneas were more conically shaped instead of curved. Not only could I not have the Lasik surgery, but I learned that unless I had treatment, I’d lose my sight.

The Defense Logistics Agency Pathways Internship Program serves as a pipeline for the DLA Pathways to Career Excellence Program. Following successful completion of academic and work experience requirements, six DLA Land and Maritime Pathways Interns entered the PaCE Program’s supply career field.

Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s Engineering and Technical Support Directorate participated in a Virtual Career Fair with the Ohio State University on Sept. 15, 2020. This online event connected employers with students, recent graduates, and alumni seeking both internships and full-time employment.

July New Employee Orientation

The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime People and Culture Office welcomed 14 new employees to Columbus, Ohio, and four from the detachments at the July New Employee orientation held July 26-27 using the Defense Collaboration System. Griff Warren, Chief of Operations, welcomed the group and answered questions from the audience.
