TSP rules for hardship withdrawal relaxed for employees affected by recent natural disasters

The Thrift Savings Plan has made a temporary change to allow participants affected by Hurricane Harvey or Hurricane Irma to make hardship withdrawals under certain circumstances.

Approximately 60-70 percent of the existing roof at DLA Distribution Corpus Christi’s administrative building is blown off and roof drains, intake vents and smoke hatches are damaged from Hurricane Harvey’s winds that swept across Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.

DLA Distribution Corpus Christi, Texas Bounces Back from Hurricane Harvey

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Corpus Christi, Texas is bouncing back from wind damage sustained from Hurricane Harvey, a category-4 hurricane that formed in the Gulf of Mexico and made landfall in southeastern Texas with wind speeds of up to 130 miles per hour. In the days following the hurricane, rain added another element of destruction to the already damaged area.

Members of the DLA Distribution Expeditionary team provided critical support to USNORTHCOM and FEMA by loading over 14,800 Commercial Meals and 11,760 liters of bottled water onto Texas National Guard and U.S. Border Patrol CH-47, UH-60, and UH-1 aircraft at Randolph Auxiliary Airfield in Seguin, Texas.

Eye on the ground: A look inside Distribution’s Expeditionary Team’s hurricane support

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. — Before the 2017 hurricane season, DLA Distribution had never had all three expeditionary teams deployed simultaneously in support of a natural disaster. They worked together on deployments in Afghanistan but never for a FEMA response.

Distribution Transportation Team ensures meals, water and other supplies delivered to those affected by hurricanes

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. — Every March, the Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Headquarters Transportation Team works with Surface Deployment and Distribution Command on DLA/FEMA requirements to prepare a solicitation to the carrier industry for disaster support rates. When FEMA requirements are sent, the team utilizes the carriers and rates from this solicitation to quickly position supplies at the FEMA staging locations.

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. — As the Defense Logistics Agency continues working with U.S. Northern Command and the Federal Emergency Management Agency in a supporting role in the overall whole of government disaster response to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, its distribution center in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania has been steadfastly shipping relief items to the affected areas while its deployed employees manage receipt and delivery of items.

TSP temporarily changes hardship withdrawal rules

The Thrift Savings Plan has made a temporary change to the financial hardship withdrawal rules for participants affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Soldiers of 3rd Battalion, 133rd Field Artillery Regiment based in El Paso, Texas with first responders, the Cajun Navy and civilian volunteers tirelessly work points of distribution as relief teams to provide Texans affected by Hurricane Harvey more than 18,000 cases of water daily and nearly 320,000 pounds of ice, and tens of thousands of pounds of donated necessities, such as toilet paper, baby food and diapers, tarps, hygiene items, clothing and cleaning supplies, Sept. 3 2017.
