From the Moon to Mars

Fifty years ago liquid oxygen and rocket propellant propelled the three-stage Saturn V rocket carrying the Apollo 11 spacecraft and three astronauts to the moon. Defense Supply Agency in Cameron Station – the predecessor agency of Defense Logistics Agency Energy – supplied the rocket fuel and other space-related items including liquid hydrogen, cryogenic valves and helium storage tanks to launch the first manned mission to land on the Moon.

German national recognized for 35 years of service

Wolfgang Leis, a host nation employee, was recognized for his 35 years of service during a ceremony at the Ramstein Air Base, Germany, June 27. The Length of Service Award Presentation ceremony recognizes all host nation employees who have continuously served the U.S. Armed Forces for greater than 20 years.

DLA Energy Americas at Houston changed leadership in a ceremony at the Petroleum Club of Houston, Texas, June 26. Outgoing commander Army Lt. Col. Josielyn Carrasquillo handed over responsibility of the organization to Army Lt. Col. Julian Perez.

In a time-honored tradition, DLA Energy Europe and Africa Commander Army Lt. Col. Dennis Williams transferred his authority and responsibility to Army Lt. Col. Donna Welch during a change of command ceremony at Vogelweh’ s Community Armstrong’s Club, in Kaiserslautern, Germany, June 24.

DLA Energy Okinawa held a change of command ceremony at Camp Shields, Okinawa, June 21. Air Force Lt. Col. Jarrett Weiblen relinquished command to Air Force Maj. Tracy Gilmore.

The sky wasn’t the limit for 2019 Defense Logistics Agency Hall of Fame inductee Sharon Murphy, who expanded DLA Energy’s non-petroleum energy programs and served as director of the Aerospace Energy Office.

The DLA Energy Americas North regional office welcomed a new commander on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, June 7. Outgoing commander Air Force Lt. Col. Frederick Mueller handed over responsibility of the organization to Air Force Maj. Marcus McWilliams.
