Marines test system to expand fuel capabilities
Marine Maj. Kelvin Chew, Marine Corps Expeditionary Energy Office technology and experimentation officer, monitors the pace of fuel pumped through the expeditionary Mobile Fuel Additization Capability at the Charleston Defense Fuel Supply Point Dec. 6, 2018. This system works by injecting additives into fuel. The operator calculates how much additive needs to be applied to the fuel, calibrates the EMFAC’s injection rate, connects the EMFAC to the fuel supply and runs the fuel through the machine. The EMFAC was developed to supplement the supply provided by Defense Logistics Agency Energy, the primary agency responsible for additizing fuel and delivering it to the Marine Corps.
