GREEN PRODUCTS AND SERVICES AWARD
- PURPOSE AND INTENT OF THE AWARD: This award will allow the Director, DLA, to recognize teams and individuals who demonstrate extraordinary effort in making environmental products and services available to the customers. Recognition of these exemplary efforts will provide a template for others to follow and encourage employees throughout DLA to take an active role in protecting the environment.
- NATURE OF THE AWARD: The award will consist of a decorative plaque and signed certificate from the Director. One plaque will be awarded per team, and all individuals will receive a certificate.
- AWARD ELIGIBILITY: Recipients of this award must be DLA employees and have had at least 180 days of service with DLA. The award may be given to either civilian or military personnel, and to teams or individuals.
- AWARD CONSIDERATION PERIOD: While nominees will generally be assessed on contributions and accomplishments or major milestones in the previous two fiscal years, it is recognized that many projects will have a longer history or one of an ongoing nature. Repeat submissions are acceptable in subsequent years providing that the nomination is updated.
- AWARD SELECTION CRITERIA: Will include but not be limited to:
- Individuals and teams nominated for introducing or marketing green products must demonstrate a significant accomplishment or meaningful increase of green products made available or requisitioned.
- Products that have been classified as green products must at least meet minimum Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements in the areas of recycled content; or conform with an identified environmental attribute (such as energy efficient); or provide a significant environmental advantage to customers; or be recognized as an environmentally preferable product by the EPA. - Individuals and teams nominated for providing green services must demonstrate that the service provides DLA customers, suppliers, or other stakeholders with improvements in processes or methods. This may be quantitative or qualitative in nature.
- Green services may also include activities such as providing environmental guidance; providing information and education that assists with environmental objectives; outreaching to industry, customer groups, or local communities pertaining to actions with environmental benefits, etc. Individuals and teams should demonstrate that their efforts have contributed to environmental stewardship and the mission of DLA.
- NOMINATION, SELECTION and AWARD PROCESS:
- An annual call for nominations will be announced by HQ DLA and will include a submission form that will be available electronically.
- Individuals and teams can be self-nominated or nominated by others within DLA or external to DLA.
- Nominees will prepare a nomination package which will be forwarded through command channels in accordance with the timeline and the call for nominations. Nominations may be electronic or hardcopy.
- DLA Enterprise Support, Environment, Safety and Occupational Health (DES-E) will have the lead in reviewing all nominations, usually assisted by a judging panel. DES-E will recommend up to two teams and five individuals for the Green Products and Services Award. The Director will be notified by the DES Director.
- The Director, or designee, will normally present the award plaques and certificates to the winners at a ceremony at HQ DLA.
