DLA Distribution headquarters recognizes veteran employees

By Brianne M. Bender DLA Distribution Public Affairs

DLA Distribution headquarters and Army Col. Brad J. Eungard, commander of DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pa., hosted a Veteran’s Day recognition program on Nov. 9, in the auditorium of the brand new Distribution headquarters building.

To begin the ceremony, the emcee, Army Reserve Master Sgt. Kevin Davis invited the Distribution Transportation Container Team to join Distribution deputy commander, Twila Gonzales, SES, on stage. The team was selected as Team of the Quarter, for the third quarter of fiscal year 2016.

Following the award presentation for Team of the Quarter, Eungard and guest speakers, Thomas A. Brown, the Pennsylvania commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Army Col. David Shank from the United States Army War College in Carlisle, Pa., joined Davis on stage.

The ceremony was held to honor the men and women working for DLA Distribution who have served the United States in both peace time and war.

“I want to personally thank all of you who have courageously and honorably served and those of you who continue to serve today,” said Eungard. “Our veterans have fought for and maintained our National Security for 240 years ensuring free elections upholding democracy.”

The ceremony included remarks from the two guest speakers, as well as a field cross ceremony performed by representatives from the William H. Noss American Legion post 143; Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Riders. The field cross ceremony first began during World War I in order to mark the site of field burials that could later be documented or retrieved.

In addition, the ceremony recognized 20 DLA Distribution employees who served our nation in a uniformed service. The individual’s names were called, and they were each presented certificates of special recognition.

Following the recognition ceremony, all attendees were invited to a cake cutting ceremony held in the cafeteria.
