PHILADELPHIA –
The commander of the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support praised several recent accomplishments, including support of the power grid rebuild in Puerto Rico, during a town hall with the workforce June 12.
The Construction & Equipment supply chain supplied more than 36 million electrical items and 1,251 generators following Hurricane Maria, Army Brig. Gen. Mark Simerly said. Simerly noted accomplishments from each of DLA Troop Support’s five supply chains and other support offices.
He also invited Kathy Cutler, DLA’s chief information officer, to talk to employees about the agency’s information technology efforts. (See full story.)
As the first year of implementing the new employee performance and appraisal system closes, Simerly asked employees to focus on the timelines to review next year’s performance plans and evaluate last year’s performance.
The time and quality of effort put into the DoD Performance Management and Appraisal Program will maximize “DPMAP’s potential to improve our ability to manage talent and develop leaders,” the commander said.
“What’s on paper is important,” he said, “but also more important, is that face-to-face dialogue between the leaders and the led.”
As independent auditors continue to check the accuracy of DLA’s financial statements, a team from Ernst & Young was in Philadelphia for a second week working with Troop Support’s supply chains and support offices.
Simerly asked employees to be “transparent and collaborative” to help the auditors understand how Troop Support operates.
He also mentioned three senior leaders in new positions at Troop Support:

Army Capt. Matthew Voyles is now the Medical supply chain director

Navy Capt. Gerald Raia, formerly Procurement Process Support director, is now the C&E supply chain director

Tom Grace, formerly C&E customer operations director, is the new C&E deputy director
Simerly thanked employees who participated in the 2018 DLA Culture/Climate Survey. With a 64 percent response rate, the feedback will be incorporated into next year’s campaign plan and used to identify culture improvement team projects.
During an update on several facilities projects, Simerly said that the new Troop Support headquarters building is on track to be complete in February. After demolition of the current building, expected in December 2019, traffic flow through the main gate should improve, he said.
