DLA Distribution Acting Director Independence Day Message

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Teammates,

From 1776 until the present day, July 4th, the birth of American Independence has traditionally been celebrated as with events ranging from parades, concerts and fireworks to more casual family gatherings and barbecues. In light of the current COVID Crisis however, as we approach this 4th of July, it is important not to misplace our enthusiasm nor forget the risks associated with the long weekend.

I ask that you remain vigilant as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. As worldwide cases reach over 10 million, and the United States reports over 2.5 million cases, I want to remind you all that we haven’t seen the end of this coronavirus. Please take care of yourself and your families. When you’re out in public, social distance to the greatest extent possible, wear a face covering when required or recommended, and make it a routine to thoroughly wash your hands.

I know things are starting to open up across the country and we’ve all been cooped up. But if you choose to gather with family and friends to celebrate our Nation’s independence this weekend, please do your part to make sure we don’t see a spike in COVID-related cases over the next several weeks by reviewing the CDC guidelines for social gatherings. Because COVID-19 virus circulation varies in communities, these considerations are meant to supplement state, local, or territorial, health and safety laws, rules, and regulations. Also, remember to exercise caution with fireworks, pool safety and please don’t drink and drive.

And finally, I ask that you remember to keep the deployed Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen and their families in mind as you celebrate our freedom they continue to defend.

I am proud of you and can’t thank you enough for all you do — have a safe and healthy Independence Day weekend!
