Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Norfolk, Va., recently paused to promote two military personnel to the next higher rank.  Both ceremonies were officiated by Navy Capt. Harry Thetford, commander of the distribution center.

First up was Navy Lt. j.g. Jacob Nguyen, who was promoted to lieutenant on December 2.  Nguyen is a Navy Supply Corps officer, currently assigned to DLA as a transportation intern.  Nguyen also serves as the command’s transportation officer.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Christopher Szkaradnik was frocked to Petty Officer 1st Class on December 8.  Szkaradnik is a Navy Quatermaster, and in his last assignment was a master helmsman on board the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69).  At DLA, Szkaradnik is the leading petty officer of the DLA Map Support Office, Norfolk.

Both ceremonies were attended by senior enlisted personnel from the members’ previous commands.  “This demonstrates the vital role that our senior enlisted personnel serve in developing our future military leaders,” said Thetford.  “In each case, the mentorship of these senior enlisted leaders was recognized as a key part of the service members’ success.”
