PHILADELPHIA –
Every service member across the globe has been affected by the improved quality of service Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s military food advisor provided, the organization’s commander said.
Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Commander Mark Simerly officiated the promotion of Chief Warrant Officer Five Timothy E. Hagans from chief warrant officer four during a ceremony in his honor Feb. 23 at DLA Troop Support in Philadelphia.
“We’ve benefitted from Tim serving here for four years at DLA Troop Support,” Simerly said. “Promotion to CW5 is a very big deal. It happens very rarely and it only happens to the best of the best.”
As the military food advisor, Hagans supported Subsistence’s mission of providing food and food service equipment to service members around the globe.
Hagans has served in several food service expert capacities throughout his military career of 31 years, including deployments to Germany, Iraq and Bosnia. His next assignment will be at United States Forces Koreas, 8th Army, Yongsan, South Korea as the command food advisor.
“I can think of no better soldier to send to that location to make sure that our troops are ready to execute that mission,” Simerly said.
Simerly described Hagans as a well-rounded leader that pushed others to strive for excellence.
“I expect you to leverage the knowledge and experience you’ve acquired here at Troop Support to ensure our soldiers have all the food supplies they need to execute their mission,” Simerly said to Hagans. “And I have no doubt you will continue to exceed those expectations as you’ve done here and throughout your career.”
During the ceremony Hagans thanked his Subsistence co-workers for the personal and professional support they provided him and his family while at the agency.
“As I say farewell to DLA, I reflect back on the last four magnificent years of my military career,” Hagans said. “I’m glad that I had the opportunity to work beside some of the finest and most brilliant people in this world. I’m proud of what you do, and you’re absolutely amazing.”
Subsistence Director of Supplier Operations Gina Vasquez presented Hagans with a memento connecting Hagans’ companionships within the supply chain and Philadelphia as the City of Brotherly Love.
“[Hagans] has been wonderful to work with and he’s made everything better,” Vasquez said. “He’s very loved within Subsistence and this [memento] is part of our love to you.”
Hagans’ wife, Sonja and sons Timothy Jr. and Kamyle placed his new rank insignia upon his shoulders and beret, marking his transition to chief warrant officer five. Hagans’ wife and mother, Margaret, were also presented with flowers on behalf of the Army and DLA Troop Support.
