Sabo earns military quarterly award

By DLA Energy Public Affairs

Air Force Master Sgt. Jeffrey Sabo, Defense Logistics Agency Energy, was awarded the DLA-wide Senior Enlisted Non-Commissioned Officer of the Quarter for the first quarter, fiscal year 2018 for his support to the warfighter and DLA customers.

Sabo is a DLA Energy Americas quality assurance representative serving as both the rear and forward-facing DLA Energy point of contact at the Defense Fuel Support Point Bordentown, New Jersey. He is responsible for the oversight, reporting and accountability of more than two million gallons of Defense Working Capital Fund products provided to the warfighter and federal agencies throughout the Northeast area of operations.

DLA Energy Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. Martin Chapin recognized Sabo’s accomplishments in a handwritten note.

“CONGRATULATIONS!!!” Chapin wrote. “As our Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2018, you’ve displayed the professionalism and expertise that sets the NCOs of the U.S. military apart from any other nation. Thanks for setting the standard and representing DLA Energy so well!”

Sabo was integral to the DLA Energy Task Force Americas team who coordinated and executed more than 800 Federal Emergency Management Agency priority fuel missions to support response and recovery efforts in the wake of three consecutive hurricanes, Harvey, Irma and Maria.

“Master Sgt. Sabo is a subject matter expert in his field with impeccable bearing, incredible devotion to duty, and a tireless work ethic,” said DLA Energy Task Force Americas Commander Army Lt. Col. Josielyn Carrasquillo. “As a QAR, he ensures our warfighters receive on-specification fuel products in order to maintain the freedom of movement.”

Sabo volunteered for hurricane relief operations as part of TFA taking charge of mission essential tasks such as fielding global positioning systems for fuel trucks and developing check in/check out procedures and reporting. Additionally, Sabo performed route reconnaissance and site surveys to transition TFA from Fort Hood, Texas, to Robbins Air Force Base, Georgia, shifting relief efforts from Harvey to Irma; and then to Maria.

“His leadership and commitment to excellence were key factors supporting FEMA’s priorities from August to December 2017 in support of the hurricane relief efforts in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico,” Carrasquillo said. “Sabo quickly adapted to evolving mission requirements and operated effectively across a range of changing environment. He is the leader that any officer wants to have in his/her formation. He is a force multiplier.”

In his personal time, Sabo serves as a youth football team head coach, volunteering more than 200 hours to mentoring athletes. He recently organized a “cleat drop off box” to ensure every player is properly equipped.

He also serves as an Air Force representative speaking at schools positively advancing the Air Force brand of professionalism, integrity, commitment and a burning desire to excel. Sabo recently completed the Rutgers University Safety Clinic for youth sports, lifelong certification for volunteer coaches’ safety orientation and training skill program.
