Fort Belvoir, Virginia –
As evidenced by recent storms, wildfires and other natural disasters, catastrophes of all kinds can strike at any time. National Preparedness Month, observed every September by presidential proclamation, serves as a reminder for individual and organizational vigilance. The theme for 2018 is “Disasters Happen. Prepare Now. Learn How.”
Across the enterprise, the Defense Logistics Agency has several activities planned to raise employee awareness. DLA kicked off National Preparedness Month by participating in a McNamara Headquarters Complex-wide emergency preparedness exercise in support of Fort Belvoir Garrison’s overall exercise plan Sept. 6. On Sept. 11, the agency honored the heroic actions and sacrifices of those who provided rescue and recovery efforts in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.
Other events in the McNamara Headquarters Complex will include:
- Security and Emergency Management Expo in the café area, Sept. 12, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Insider Threats presentation in the Kabeiseman Center, Sept. 18, 10-11 a.m.
- Operations Security display in café area, Sept. 19
