Richmond, Va, April 10, 2019 —
Members of Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Leadership Working Group invited DLA Human Resources Director Brad Bunn to speak at their April 1 forum on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia.
The forum began by recognizing Dashia Chandler, who was nominated by her employee to receive the DLA Aviation Leadership Award. Chandler is a supervisor in the Contract Administration Division of DLA Aviation’s Supplier Operations Original Equipment Manufacturer Directorate.
In the nomination, Chandler was recognized as “exuding a premier level of confidence and compassion that allows her team, new and seasoned, to feel valued and supported.” Among other attributes, her servant leadership style was highlighted as well as her efforts to groom the next generation of DLA leaders by example, by enabling, and by promoting innovation and work/life balance to increase productivity.
After congratulating Chandler, Bunn, who has served as DLA’s HR director for the last 10 years, shared his thoughts on the DLA leadership landscape and the role of leaders focusing on the enterprises’ latest climate/culture results, using HR resources like DOD Performance Management and Appraisal Program (DPMAP) as a performance management tool, and also growing the next generation of leaders.
Bunn stressed to DLA Aviation leaders that performance management starts with managing ourselves and is relationship management. He said it’s important to be proactive and recognize that performance management happens every day.
Bunn closed with highlighting DLA’s succession management process implemented this past March to “build the bench” within the enterprise and enable more effective risk mitigation for critical vacancies.
