Hellenic Air Force visits six-year partner, DLA Distribution

By Cory Angell, DLA Distribution Public Affairs

DLA Distribution hosted a Hellenic Air Force transportation meeting in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, the week of April 8.

“I wanted to welcome you all here,” said Joe Faris, business development director, DLA Distribution. “This partnership with Greece started in the fall of 2013 and it’s been a great working relationship for the past five years.”

This weeklong event consisted of over 20 participants from;  Air Force Security Assistance Command, Hellenic Air Force, Hellenic Aerospace Industries, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, United States Transportation Command and DLA.

“The overarching goal of the week was twofold,” said Jim McCormack, DLA Distribution business development. “We are ensuring support to the Hellenic Air Force continues to meet their current mission and posturing to support potential new mission requirements.”

Many of those in attendance serve with Air Force Security Assistance Command out of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The AFSAC has the mission to, “deliver airpower capabilities to strengthen international partnerships and advance national security,” according to their website.

“We all work together to acquire or upgrade systems,” said Mike Jenkins with the U.S. Air Force Security Assistance and Cooperation Directorate. “Then we work to deliver and sustain those systems maintaining those capabilities for Greece.”

The diverse group seated around the tables came from many different locations with the goal of better supporting the Hellenic Air Force as they continue with upgrades to systems and acquiring new systems.

“We are looking at upgrading F-16s and this will involve the transport of goods and parts,” said Col. Papanikolopoulos, Hellenic Air Force. “This is all about logistics; getting the right stuff at the right place, at the right time.”

DLA Distribution values the six-year partnership with the Hellenic Air Force and continues to leverage capabilities to provide world-class support to our allies. “Since this partnership started Transportation Command and DLA have delivered almost $600 million in cargo from the U.S. to Greece, equating to almost 2 million cubic feet and 1 million pounds of freight,” said McCormack.
