LOUISVILLE, Kentucky –
Representatives from Defense Logistics Agency Energy and four other DLA major subordinate commands traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to explore business opportunities within the Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, Jan. 15.
“The Great Lakes and Ohio River Division hosted DLA to educate and explore opportunities to support the execution of unprecedented civil works and military programs,” said Marc McConahy, DLA Energy Customer Relationship Management Division chief. “The site visit provided an opportunity to talk to folks in the field who have utilized DLA services and receive feedback from a customer’s perspective.”
Rhonda Mustafaa is the DLA liaison officer to USACE. She was accompanied by DLA Troop Support’s Dorothy O’Connell and Adam Tutolo. Joseph Downey and Carl Dakin represented DLA Disposition Services. Participating for DLA Distribution was Deputy Business Operations Director Jim McCormick.
“We identified seven areas of potential growth and opportunities,” Mustafaa said.
DLA’s efforts to expand its customer base to other federal agencies is one of the five major tenets to the DLA Strategic Plan. DLA Energy has been working to inform non-Department of Defense partners on how they can capitalize on DLA Energy’s comprehensive supply chain network and economies of scale.
“It is our mission to grow and expand DLA Energy’s service to non-DoD government agencies,” McConahy said. “We can use our global petroleum supply network and expertise in supply chain operations to improve efficiency and increase effectiveness for our customers.”
DLA Energy supports 94% of USACE fuel purchases and is a mandatory source of fuel for federal/civilian agencies.
Mike Park is the chief of DLA Energy’s Fuel Cards Program Office. During the meeting, he discussed how the USACE could use DLA Energy’s fuel cards for cost effective and timely support.
DLA Energy’s fuel card program provides customer-purchasing tools for use worldwide and supports more than 70,000 card holding customers.
“Visits like this one with the USACE help us understand the mission set of our customers, their limitations, and issues,” Park said. “Based on our talks, there is interest in using the Swipe SEA Card to help fuel their tugs and barges operating on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.”
DLA Energy has agreements with over 400 non-DoD organizations with approximately $920 million in annual sales. DLA is planning four additional meetings with USACE in 2020.
