How long have you worked for the federal government including military service? 35 years
How long have you worked for DLA Disposition Services? 19.5 years
What is your favorite thing about your line of work? The people I work with are my favorite thing about my job. What is the best piece of advice someone has given you? The best advice I have been given was to “Get out of your comfort zone.”
What do you think about when you hear “Women’s History Month? I think about all the women that have made contributions to America’s history.
Who are some women you admire? Harriet Tubman, Ellen DeGeneres
What challenge remain for women today? How can understanding history help us to overcome them? Women today still face a lot of issues with equal rights, equal pay and harassment. In many professions they are still male dominated, and women still have to break through into the senior management positions in government. Through understanding history, we can learn what mistakes were made and correct the errors in bias and learn from those errors in judgements.
What is your best memory of working here? In 1987, I worked in operations in the Precious Metals Branch. We had a small team of about nine people, but we were truly a team. We worked hard but we had fun. We were a family.
What did you want to be when you grew up? A doctor
Who is your hero? My mom
If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be? I would spend it with my family kayaking.
What are your hobbies? I enjoy kayaking, reading, Pinterest and hosting family events.
What is your favorite quote? My favorite quote is “Do the right thing, do the best you can, and always show people you care” ~ Lou Holtz (it’s on my office wall)
