Supply technician shares a personal connection to DSCR aircraft

By Leon Moore, Public Affairs Specialist DLA Aviation Public Affairs Office

When David Buonconsiglio began his job as a supply technician for Defense Logistics Agency Distribution at Richmond, Virginia, on Defense Supply Center Richmond two months ago, it didn’t take him long to get reacquainted with a memory from his past.

“Finding out that there was an old friend here made me happy,” Buonconsiglio said.

That old friend Buonconsiglio is referring to is the Navy A-6E Intruder static display aircraft sitting outside the Bettye Ackerman-Cobb Child Development Center on DSCR. He said once he was able to break away from his desk and see the jet, tail number 157024, in person, he immediately knew it was one he had worked on during his active-duty time in the Navy.

From 1992 to 1995, then Petty Officer 2nd Class Buonconsiglio was a Navy aviation storekeeper assigned to Attack Squadron 115, based out of Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan.

The squadron made multiple deployments on board the USS Independence (CV-62) enforcing a no-fly zone over southern Iraq..

“It brought back both good and bad memories, but I’m very glad to have a chance to see her again,” he said.
