Remaining effective, efficient and best value was the key point Defense Logistics Agency Distribution’s commander Army Brig. Gen. Richard Dix emphasized to DLA Distribution Tobyhanna, Pa., employees May 20.

The town hall began with Dix presenting 19 employees with the DLA Humanitarian Effort Award for their support of Operation United Assistance, the US Government’s humanitarian assistance/disaster relief efforts in West Africa. These employees picked, packed and shipped nearly 300 stock items to support service members overseas. Items shipped ranged from pigtail cables, amplifiers, receiver transmitters and display units with a value of nearly $1.2 million.

After recognizing all the award winners, Dix discussed the approaching audit readiness deadline. He emphasized the importance of being prepared to explain detailed tasks to auditors as they visit the distribution center. “Audit readiness will determine the future of this organization. We need to leave it better than we found it,” said Dix. He noted that audit readiness will not solely involve finance specialists, the entire DLA workforce will be engaged.  From leadership to the employee who receives a paycheck, everyone is vital and responsible for audit preparations, said Dix.

Praising the mission of the workforce, Dix mentioned one of the reasons DLA Distribution Tobyhanna is important to the strength of the country is that everything electronic-based in Afghanistan was sent from Tobyhanna.  Without the distribution center and its employees, our warfighters and efforts would have been compromised, he said.

Finally, Dix closed the meeting by recognizing Lt. Col. M. Troy Rittenhouse, exiting commander of DLA Distribution Tobyhanna, describing the day as “bittersweet.”  He presented Rittenhouse with a commander’s coin and predicted the organization would see him again.
