Pearl Harbor’s Manding named DLA Distribution Employee of the Quarter

Dominico Manding, motor vehicle operator at DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, has been selected as one of DLA Distribution’s Employees of the Quarter for fourth quarter fiscal year 2015 for his superior performance, technical expertise and teamwork.

“Manding’s phenomenal performance demonstrates the requisite qualities, experience and dedication which epitomize the traits of one who deserves this professional recognition and award,” said supervisor Marian Puana-August. “His superior performance, unsurmountable knowledge, and dedication led to his significant accomplishments and were critical to retail operations and the success of the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard mission.”

Manding’s leadership and expertise were displayed when the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard received a critical bulky, hard to handle commodity valued at $255,000.  Manding was tasked with offloading the item from the C-5 aircraft in which it arrived.  Despite mere inches between the sides of the aircraft and the trailer housing the item, Manding successfully offloaded the nearly 80,000 pound trailer.

Due to the size of the customized trailer, however, Manding had to overcome numerous blind spots in a highly congested industrial area while maintaining radio contact with three spotters in order to deliver the item to the USS City of Corpus Christi.

Additionally, Manding faced yet another obstacle upon returning the  trailer to Hickam Air Force Base for reload on the aircraft.  Unable to upload the trailer due to Army cargo still being onboard the aircraft, Manding went above and beyond his duties to assist the Air Force special planning supervisor offloading the aircraft.  Specifically, his skills were critical in the offload of an Army 40 ft. container.

“The distinctive actions of Mr. Manding were critical in returning the USS City of Corpus Christi to full operational capability and the return of 25th Infantry Division cargo,” said Puana-August.
