NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania, Jan. 28, 2016 —
Army 1st Sgt. Michael S. Warren, Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna installation senior enlisted advisor, has been selected to attend the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy at Ft. Bliss, Texas.
After completing the 9-month long program, which begins this summer, Warren will be promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major.
According to its website, the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy is acknowledged by military and civilian organizations as the world's premiere institution for the education of noncommissioned officers, and is accredited as an academic Institution of Excellence. The Sergeants Major Course provides Soldiers with an education that teaches them to enhance their character, self-expression and strengthen teamwork abilities.
A native of Mooresville, N.C., Warren enlisted into the U.S. Army in 2001, completing Basic Training at Fort Jackson, S.C. and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Va. Upon completion of AIT, Warren was assigned to 227th Quartermaster Company, Fort Campbell, Ky.; Kansas City Recruiting Battalion, Kan.; 584th Maintenance Company, Fort Campbell, Ky.; 227th Quartermaster Company, Fort Campbell, Ky.; 14th Maintenance Company, 58th Signal Battalion, Okinawa, Japan; 58th Signal Battalion HHC, 58th Signal Battalion, Okinawa, Japan, 349th Signal Company, 58th Signal Battalion, Okinawa Japan; 21st Theater Sustainment Command, 5th Quartermaster Theater Aerial Delivery Company in Kaiserslautern, Germany, Rheinland-Pfaltz Garrison HHC. Warren has been deployed once in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His leadership positions include squad leader, operations sergeant, platoon sergeant, recruiter, assistant station commander, logistics NCOIC, S-3 Training NCOIC and first sergeant.
Warren’s military and civilian education includes Combat Lifesaver Course, Basic Leader's Course, Army Recruiter School, Advanced Leader's Course, Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below, Senior Leader's Course, Contracting Officer Representative, DTMS Master Training Course, Company Commander First Sergeant Course, Supervisor Course, Action Officer Course, Management Course, Civilian Basic Course, Civilian Intermediate Course and Joint Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education Course.
He obtained his Associate’s degree from American Military University in general studies and Bachelor’s degree in management with a focus in leadership from American Military University. Currently, he is enrolled in Columbia Southern Master’s program pursuing a degree in organizational leadership.
Warren’s awards and decorations includes the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with three stars, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Ribbon (3rd Numeral), Army Service Ribbon and Noncommissioned Officer School (3rd Numeral). His badges include Gold Recruiter Identification Badge with three sapphires stars for excellence and Driver Badge. Additionally, he has earned the coveted “Recruiter Ring.”
