DSCR receives 2016 CINC Award

Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, received the 2015 Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence in a ceremony July 15, conduct by video telecast to Richmond from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia.

The Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Facilities Investment and Management Mike McAndrew and the Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics the Honorable Alan Estevez formally recognized and congratulated Air Force Brig. Gen. Allan Day, DSCR and Defense Logistics Agency Aviation commander, with the installation award in during the VTC.

Day accepted the award saying, it was a great honor to accept on behalf of the employees who made this award possible.

In the open discussion portion of the ceremony, Day recognized some of the teams that helped DSCR achieve this award. He recognized the buying teams – pre- and post-award as well as the folks in disposition, distribution, mapping, and safety. He also said in the energy savings category that engineers are in process of building the new DLA Aviation operations center and the new Virginia National Guard state headquarters, both of which will use geo-thermal energy.

The Commander in Chief's Annual Award for Installation Excellence recognizes outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations.  This highly competitive presidential award is given to installations who provide exemplary support to Department of Defense missions.

Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter announced the 2016 winners in May.  DSCR was one of five military bases given the highest award for excellence.

Other installation winners include: U.S. Army Garrison Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, California; and Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington.

Each winning installation received a commemorative commander-in-chief's award trophy, flag and a congratulatory letter from the president. 

The Defense Supply Center Richmond is home to Defense Logistics Agency Aviation, a primary-level field activity of DLA, serving as its aviation demand and supply chain manager.  More than 3,000 employees work on the 600-acre site located in Chesterfield County, Virginia.  The installation is also home to DLA Distribution Richmond and DLA Disposition Services.  DLA Installation Support at Richmond provides facilities and operational support for the installation.
