Black History Month Spotlight: Latasha McGee

By DLA Energy Public Affairs

Editor's note: This year's Black History month theme is “Black Migrations” honoring African Americans in motion. Just like their ancestors, these DLA Energy employees are driving forward, progressing their lives and careers in positive ways.

My name is:

Latasha McGee

I am:

A Resolution and Transportation Specialist for DLA Energy Hawaii

Describe your job in a sentence:

I manage fuel inventory and processing for ten Defense Fuel Support Points, oversee 33 fuel accounts distributed across the Hawaiian Islands, and schedule fuel deliveries to four military installations on Oahu.

How long have you worked at DLA?

I began working at DLA in November 2017.

What is your favorite thing about working for DLA?

Working for DLA is an opportunity of a lifetime for me. I’ve worked in the logistics field my entire career but never at this capacity. It’s evident that servicing the Warfighter is first priority based on the unwavering commitment I see in my coworkers. Working at DLA has provided me a feeling that my work ethic, diligence and commitment to the Warfighter is noticed and greatly appreciated. I’m extremely humble, grateful and blessed to work in an environment where we share consensus.

What are your best memories of working here?

My best memory occurred at my predecessor’s luncheon. He was presented with an award and certificate and during his speech, he fought back tears as he spoke. I thought to myself, this must be a really good place to work if he’s crying during his going away speech.

How do you make a difference?

Accountability! My job supports Warfighters by ensuring the fuel needed to support their mission and exercise is well accounted for. Overseeing the fuel inventory is necessary. We ensure that no negligence, fraud and theft is done against the government. The DLA workforce as a whole ensures the operational needs of the Warfighter are always first, which helps the Warfighter continue to protect the fellow citizens of our wonderful country and abroad.

How are you driving forward and progressing in your life and career in positive ways?

I have three children and every decision I’ve made regarding my career and education is to demonstrate that they can accomplish any goal they want. I’m determined to obtain my master’s degree and this milestone will motivate my children and hopefully broaden more opportunities for my career. In my career, I continue to learn every day from subject matter experts. The invaluable knowledge I’ve gain thus far I’m sure will continue to propel me forward.
