DLA, DoD IT professionals share business system practices, efficiencies

By Michael Molinaro, J6 Communications

Defense Logistics Agency senior leaders hosted colleagues from the services and various Department of Defense agencies at the Cross Service Program Executive Officer Summit in Chantilly, Virginia, in May.

The summit assembles PEOs who work with defense business systems and information-technology related capabilities to share experiences and seek efficiencies as DoD continues to refine its business systems.

Representatives were from the Air Force PEO Business and Enterprise Systems; Air Force PEO Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence and Networks; Navy PEO Enterprise Information Systems; Army PEO Enterprise Information Systems; U.S. Transportation Command PEO and Defense Information Systems Agency PEO.

DLA Acting Program Executive Officer Ken Fielding opened the discussion by welcoming attendees and reiterating the importance of sharing current efforts. He reminded everyone that the intent was for actionable discussion and dialogue to assist in making DoD’s business system enterprise more efficient.

“Engaging with our colleagues from the services and agencies in a collaborative environment allows us to better support the warfighter,” Fielding said. “While our day-to-day focus is to support our respective service and agency missions, dedicating time to share capabilities and discuss solutions to common challenges is a big win for the department.”

Conversation and presentations focused on streamlining user experience of DoD business systems. Topics included robotics process automation; the Microsoft Office 365 Flow 3 pilot; moving enterprise resource planning systems to cloud environments; and efforts to align functional and acquisition communities with tools such as capability roadmaps. DLA also demonstrated the DLA Service Readiness Dashboard to show ways other organizations could benefit from a similar capability.
