COLUMBUS, Ohio –
Throughout the year, Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime associates participate in programs and activities to raise cultural awareness, boost morale and improve resiliency.
What many associates don’t see with these events is the hard work and coordination that happens behind the scenes to make them go off without a hitch.
At DLA Land and Maritime, that person is Protocol Officer Richard Bechand.
Throughout 2018, Bechand developed a close working relationship with the People and Culture Directorate staff.
He has shared his knowledge of all things protocol, ensuring events follow the correct etiquette and precedence. His organizational skills have heightened the value for many of the People and Culture programs afforded to associates, building on the commitment to enhance the culture and resiliency.
Bechand has helped provide numerous volunteer opportunities for the Level I Mentoring Program.
The opportunities have provided a chance for mentees and mentors to work together, learning the proper protocol while experiencing the tremendous amount of work and attention to detail that goes into programs. These programs include the Hall of Fame, Change of Command, military retirements, POW/MIA and Command’s Holiday Open House.
In addition to the demands of his own one-deep position, his knowledge, skills and abilities have helped make several resiliency and wellness events better by ensuring proper protocol and providing his creative genius to events such as: Heart Health Cardiology Panel, National Day of Prayer, World Diabetes Day, Post-Retirement Panel, Suicide Prevention and Awareness and so many more.
The People and Culture Directorate appreciates and thanks Bechand for continually providing top-notch protocol, attention to detail, creativity and lasting support to the directorate.
