Remembering 9/11: DLA Distribution operations director recalls morning at Pentagon

The morning of Sept. 11, 2001, was sunny and clear at the nation’s capital. Paul Abel, then an Army lieutenant colonel working in Army logistics at the Pentagon, put the top down on his convertible for the short commute to work. He even called his father, who worked in the same building in the 1960s, to brag that he would enjoy the late summer day through a window in his recently relocated office.

DLA increases map production cycle, ensures safety in aircraft navigation

Maps guide us where we need to go, but they are only as current as their last update. For many years, Defense Logistics Agency Aviation and DLA Distribution distributed updated map products to customers on a 168-day production cycle. That changed in February when the Federal Aviation Administration determined that timeline was too long and could lead to safety issues in aeronautical navigation.

Chilean Navy visits DLA Distribution

Members of the Chilean Navy visited the largest distribution center in the Defense Logistics Agency Distribution network, DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pa., on Oct. 28 to discuss DLA’s global logistics processes and how DLA Distribution supports foreign military sales customers. The visit included Rear Adm. Guido Cabrera, supply director of the Chilean Navy.

Princesses, Pirates and Porcupines unite in the quest for candy at the annual CDC Halloween Parade

Tenants of Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna lined the streets surrounding the Child Development Center and the installation fire station to hand out candy to approximately 120 ghouls, goblins, superheroes and princesses during the Halloween parade on Oct. 31.

In support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, to help raise awareness against domestic violence, the Family Advocacy Program and MWR New Cumberland Fitness Department hosted the Domestic Violence Awareness 5K Fun Run and two-mile walk on October 19.
