Chief of Staff’s Travel Log: Dawes Arboretum

Dawes Arboretum appears to be a local favorite – an attraction on many local resident’s bucket lists – located in Newark, Ohio. What began as a farm and then became the land’s second owner’s dream fulfillment started as a 140-acre farm and has grown today to be a 2,000-acre rolling hill arboretum.

Took a trip to Metro Park’s Battelle Darby Creek, southwest of Columbus. This place is a gem! Well groomed – and wide – gravel trails are easy-to-moderate and in great condition. There are views of the Darby Creek, running fast now as we get into Spring.

The Defense Supply Center Columbus is home to three Toastmasters International Clubs and this week anyone assigned to the installation will have the opportunity to see how Toastmasters may benefit them when the three clubs host a joint meeting and competition.

DLA award winners announced, eight from Columbus workforce named

Eight Columbus employees and two teams garnered top honors in the 53rd Annual Employee Recognition Awards announced by the Defense Logistics Agency this week. Three award recipients are assigned to DLA Land and Maritime’s Land Supplier Operations Directorate, two work for DLA Installation Management – Columbus and the three remaining individual awardees are from the Safety and Occupational Health Division, Procurement Process Support Directorate and Joint Reserve Force, respectively.

‘Never borrow from yourself’: Customer account specialist shares best advice of his 50-year career

This week marks five decades since a young Chester Parker entered an Army recruiting center and embarked on a federal career that took him around the world. Today, Parker is a customer account specialist with the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s Land Customer Operations. In this capacity he serves as the “face” to Army and Marine Corps customers and engages with them daily to understand their specific logistics needs.

Vision loss doesn’t stop DLA associate from achieving dreams

The last five years have been kind to Gregory Ramsey. The contracting specialist met and married his wife, embarked on a new career at Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime and became a father. In an interview for National Disability Employment Awareness Month, he described this time in his life as a whirlwind and how he’s able to “see” better than ever despite being legally blind.
