Wounded warrior will speak at DSCC Veterans Day observance

A wounded warrior will be the keynote speaker during the Defense Supply Center Columbus’ annual Veterans Day celebration Nov. 7. Columbus, Ohio, native and retired Army Capt. Karen Roddy-Spikes will speak about her military experience and what it means to be a veteran during a presentation at the installation’s Operations Center Auditorium beginning at 1 p.m.

Change your clock, change your battery

As we enter the fall season, Daylight Saving Time will end at 2 a.m. this Sunday, Nov. 4. According to a National Fire Protection Association fact sheet for smoke alarms in U. S. home fires, fires in which the smoke alarms were present but did not operate: • almost half (46 percent) of the smoke alarms had missing or disconnected batteries, • nuisance alarms were the leading reason for disconnected smoke alarms, • dead batteries caused one-quarter (24 percent) of the smoke alarm failures, and • only seven percent of the failures were due to hardwired power source problems, including disconnected smoke alarms.

F1 tornado touches down at Oklahoma City distribution center

On Tuesday, Oct. 9 at approximately 8:10 a.m. central time, an F1 tornado touched down in vicinity of DLA Distribution Oklahoma City, Oklahoma’s buildings 510 and 506. Personnel were directed to take shelter and command was able to obtain 100 percent accountability with zero injuries.

Former retail leader teaches lessons in supply chain management

During an Oct. 30 professional-development session on supply-chain management at the McNamara Headquarters Complex, Defense Logistics Agency Director Army Lt. Gen. Darrell Williams hosted Chris Sultemeier, former president and CEO of Walmart Transportation and later, executive vice president of logistics for Walmart Stores. Sultemeier relayed stories and advice from his 30-year career spanning military service and the private sector to leaders of DLA headquarters organizations and major subordinate commands.
