Area economic and community officials visited the Defense Supply Center Columbus Dec. 3 and met with leadership from the base’s two largest tenants – the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime and the Defense Finance and Accounting Service – Columbus.

December to bring building access changes

On Dec. 1, the Defense Supply Center Columbus will change the way individuals will access buildings. In keeping with Department of Defense directives to move to one card for access, DSCC Security and Emergency Services will be deactivating the LENEL building badges currently being used for building access. After this date, DSCC personnel will use their Common Access Card for building or room access.

Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s Deputy Commander Kenneth Watson joined several U.S. senators, DLA Land and Maritime’s Portsmouth Naval Shipyard leadership and associates Nov. 22 to celebrate the official groundbreaking of a new Navy submarine servicing facility.

Central Ohio, DSCC honor Veterans

Defense Supply Center Columbus associates took part in the Central Ohio Veterans Day Parade Nov. 8 to kick off a weekend of festivities honoring our nation’s veterans. The theme of this year’s celebration, The Greatest Generation, recognized World War II veterans and included several World War II-era floats and displays.

The Combined Federal Campaign kicked off at the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Nov. 20. Pledges made by federal civilian, postal and military donors during the campaign season support eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world.

The Defense Federal Community celebrates Native American Heritage Month

The Defense Federal Community celebrated Native American Heritage Month Nov. 19 in the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Operations Center Buckeye and Cardinal Rooms. November is National Native American Heritage Month. It's a time to affirm our commitment to working toward a society that fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diversity of culture and history of the 573 federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native nations in our country.

The Defense Supply Center Columbus commemorated the U.S. Marine Corps’ 244th birthday Nov. 13 in a “Tun Tavern”-style celebration at the installation’s Bunker reception hall hosted by the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime.

Land and Maritime associate inducted into Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine inducted Army Col. John Dreska into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Nov. 7 during a ceremony at Radiant Life Church in Dublin, Ohio. In addition to his military service, Dreska works for the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime as the division chief for batteries, tires and engines.

Army commands talk warfighter logistics during DSCC site visit

Representatives from U.S. Army Forces Command and U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command met with Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime logisticians Oct. 31 to open up dialogue on how best to equip warfighters to meet current and future demands. This is part of a series of collaborative meetings between the military commands and the Central Ohio logistics hub responsible for supplying spare and repair parts for thousands of weapons systems.

DLA Maritime Mechanicsburg wears pink in honor of family, friends affected by breast cancer

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and pink is the color associated with creating awareness for this disease. DLA Maritime Mechanicsburg, located on the Naval Support Activity in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, showed their support recently by gathering for a photo Oct. 16 with everyone wearing pink.

Land and Maritime veteran runs Marine Corps Marathon in honor of fallen

Jon Ferguson trained for four months – covering roughly 400 miles – to prepare himself for a big moment in late October. The Marine Corps veteran and current Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime associate completed the Marine Corps Marathon Oct. 27 in Washington, D.C. It was Ferguson’s first time running the race and second marathon ever.

Linda Johnson retires after 36 years

A longtime leader bid farewell to the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Oct. 24. Linda Johnson, deputy director of the Land Customer Operations directorate, retired after 36 years of federal service. In her final role, Johnson helped lead the team responsible for readiness support to nearly 19,000 U.S. Army and Marine Corps customers, with sales orders worth approximately $7.4 billion.
