Carter G. Woodson Award Luncheon

The Defense Federal Community Equal Employment Office’s African-American Employment Program invites you to attend the African-American/Black History Month program and Carter G. Woodson Award Luncheon, Wednesday, Feb. 21, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Armed Forces Reserve Center, Building 2.

The 2018 Carter G. Woodson Award recognizes an outstanding Defense Federal Community member and a Columbus, Ohio, community member who have made notable contributions to the African-American Community. Three hours excused leave is allotted for DLA Land and Maritime associates to attend both events, mission permitting, with approval from their supervisor. Other DLA and tenant associates should consult their leadership for attendance guidance.

Tickets are $20. Tickets are available for purchase through Wednesday, Feb. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the bldg. 20 cafeteria. Tickers may also be purchased in Building 11 from Regine Williams, 614-692-5019, and Building 21 from Aundre Howard, 614-701-2750. Please note: tickets will not be sold at the door.

2018 CGW Defense Federal Community Nominees:

Shawn Colvin, Vivian Filias, Robert Woods, Ealnor Grey, Donald Smith, Gloria Miliner, and Mary Harper-Thomas.

2018 CGW Columbus, Ohio Community Nominees:

Charles E. Tenant, founder of Africentric Early College and Oletha Stewart Waugh, Columbus Urban League. Awardees will be announced at the luncheon.


Guest Speaker Panel Discussion:

This year’s Guest Speaker Panel Discussion/Workshop will be 1:30 – 3 p.m. The guest speaker panelists are: Derrick Shelton, Superintendent for Columbus Arts and Technology; Alesia Gillison, M.Ed. Chief Academic Officer for Columbus City Schools and Lashana Crone, Human Resources Specialist for DLA Training Columbus.

The bus transportation schedule is forthcoming.
