Gimcheon, South Korea –
Unserviceable metal office furniture accounted for much of the 4,000 pounds of scrap metal Defense Logistics Agency employees in Korea recently collected at the U.S. Army Garrison Humphrey’s scrap metal collection point.
Staffers from DLA Disposition Services helped B Co., 101st Brigade Support Battalion; and Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 194th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion; turn unserviceable items into revenue for taxpayers. Ki Song Chong, a property disposal specialist at Humphreys, said the “option provides a surfeit of benefits to the warfighters” because it avoids fuel costs associated with shipping property, minimizes reliance on manpower and enhances safety via less material handling and offers “significantly’ less travel time.” Chong also said the customers were satisfied with Gimcheon’s receipt in place service and disposal service representative support.
This course of action is one Chong said “Team Gimcheon” plans to continue as a “Warfighter First” initiative, “one that bolsters our effort to secure a two-acre laydown area on garrison.”
