U.S. Army Ordnance Corps’ 13th Regimental Command Sergeant Major visits DLA Distribution

By Diana Dawa DLA Distribution Public Affairs

The U.S. Army Ordnance Corps’ Senior Enlisted Advisor, 13th Regimental Command Sgt. Maj. Terry D. Burton, spent a day at the DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, Feb. 21.

Burton initiated the visit in order learn and get a better understanding of how supplies and materiel are distributed and those distribution systems processes.

His day-long visit gave him the opportunity to tour the many warehouses on the New Cumberland, Pennsylvania installation, to include the DoD’s largest – DLA’s Eastern Distribution Center.

Additionally, Burton received various presentations on DLA Distribution operations and systems, and visited other warehouse buildings where he was briefed on Cold Chain Team Management, Foreign Military Sales, transportation operations, spoke with the parachute rigger team and lunched with DDSP’s noncommissioned officers.

Burton said the visit was very enlightening.

“I wasn’t fully aware of the foreign military sales process.  It’s great to see the contribution and the collaboration we have in supporting countries … as part of the joint community.  That was an eye opening experience for me.”

While his background is in the ordnance profession, Burton mentioned he is also well-rounded in the sustainment environment, and this visit helped him in terms of getting a better overall picture.

“This is a great opportunity to see the operations in the functions of how transportation is integrated in a DLA community and also the quartermaster branch, to see how they’re facilitating logistics in the joint environment.”
