Troop Support senior enlisted leader retires with nearly 26 years of service

By Mikia Muhammad DLA Troop Support Public Affairs

On the cusp of Memorial Day, the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s senior enlisted service member thanked fallen military members for their service during his retirement ceremony May 23.

“For all of our fallen heroes, fortunately and unfortunately, I’ve known a lot,” Army Master Sgt. Jose Moraga said. “So on this weekend it’s very special to remember them [and] their tremendous sacrifices that keep us free. We also have to make sure we’re there for their family members.”

Moraga was surrounded by family, friends and colleagues as he marked the end of his military career at the ceremony officiated by DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Mark Simerly.

Simerly commended Moraga’s commitment to the Army values and the example he set for other soldiers.

“You’ve lived your life by the Army’s values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage, and learned throughout your life that hard work pays off,” Simerly said. “As you begin this next phase of your life, continue to carry the values of our military service with you, wherever life takes you.”

While at DLA Troop Support, Moraga served as Clothing and Textiles’ senior logistics non-commissioned officer supporting the supply chain’s military customers. Moraga described his role as a “firefighter” for recruit training centers, doing necessary tasks including counting thousands of Marine khaki shirts or Navy pants.

“To my Clothing and Textiles family, thank you for allowing me to be a part of [this] amazing team,” Moraga said. “It’s amazing, the work [this] supply chain does. My duty in C&T was very rewarding.”

Moraga also worked with C&T’s culture improvement and sensing teams. He thanked the CIT for their work to improve cohesion within the supply chain and building the bench.

“Completing your Army career with this assignment as DLA Troop Support’s senior enlisted leader and customer account specialist gave you the opportunity to support other warfighters, after being a customer for 25 years,” Simerly said.

Moraga’s previous assignments included U.S Army South at Joint Base San Antonio and the U.S. Army Soldier Support Institute at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He also deployed across the globe, including to Iraq and Honduras.

Moraga said he was grateful for his military journey, as he met his wife and “battle buddy,” Gabriela, and received his U.S. citizenship during deployments in Iraq.
